Mosaic Fray Collection

Mosaic Fray Collection

Inspired by the Japanese recycling of old KIMONO fabric sewn together into a patchwork of colors, Mieko Mintz has been making beautiful kantha patchwork from old saris with local artisans in Bengal for many years.

Her collection is soft to the touch and drapes comfortably. These textiles made of frayed patches have a wonderful organic feeling and are suffused with love. These frayed patches are much softer than regular patches. The seams are not sewn in, but are sewn out, thus making for the extra softness. And the look is so natural.

You don’t have to worry about the frayed fabric, because Mieko's kantha technique will sustain the fabric forever. This amazing finishing technique was developed and mastered over the years in the Mieko Mintz clothing line. This collection has a thin layer of wool wadding along with four layers of cotton and silk recycled vintage saris for Bed Covers and Throws. All the patches are attached by hand-stitching with threads of various tones and shades deliberately leaving the edges to fray. These luxuriously soft-to-the-touch bed covers have a quarter of a million hand running stitches that make a beautiful puckered surface.
